Hello 2016!

Hello 2016…Happy New Year!

Surprised to see me pop up on your newsfeed and/or email?! Yes, I know… I’ve been away for way to long, but I’m back for good (I hope)!  I thought since today is the first day of the new year (which is so CRAZY to me) I’d recap 2015 and catch you up on my life 🙂

Let me see… where do I start???  Well for starters, two HUGE life milestones occurred in 2015.  I got engaged to my Sweets in May and four months later, we got married!  CRAZY, huh?!  I planned a wedding in four months!  Fortunately, it was very manageable to plan (kept it small) and I have the most generous and supportive family and friends, who helped me pull it all together 🙂  If you want to catch up on my attempt of a wedding series, you can read it here.  If there’s a lot of interest about my wedding, I may write a few posts about certain topics (DIY projects, tips, etc.).  Please, let me know if you’re interested.

Since I never showed any pictures (like I said I would) here is a glance of my engagement session and our big day 🙂

Besides my own wedding activities, three of my cousins got married in 2015.  Two of the weddings were held in Vietnam and one was local.  I had the privilege of being a bridesmaid for my cousin 🙂  Boy, was it an experience!  It was my first time being part of a wedding party and the wedding festivities took up two whole days…which included a traditional Vietnamese ceremony, a Catholic church ceremony and a reception for over 400 people!  My feet hurt so badly and my toes were slightly numb for two weeks… seriously.  Although, there were hiccups along the way, the wedding turned out beautifully.

J Wedding

As you can see with all the wedding activities, I pressed pause on blogging and making YouTube videos but I’m hoping to continue with it on a more consistent basis this year.  One thing I keep having to remind myself is “don’t do it for the the numbers.”  It must be the over-achiever trait in my blood to want to be the best and gain lots of subscribers/views, but it’s not about that.  I need to remind myself that I’m a makeup enthusiast and I want to share my obsession with everyone and I have a platform to do so  🙂 I actually purchased my first Erin Condern Life Planner and I’ve been sucked into the #planneraddict life but I’m not mad at it.  If you don’t know what that is… YouTube “Plan With Me” videos and you’ll see what I’m talking about 🙂  For any planner enthusiasts out there, if you want an in-depth post about my thoughts about the planner and how I organize/decorate it, please let me know.  Hopefully the planner will help me be more organized with blogging/YouTube and new content will be showing up on your newsfeed soon 🙂

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful new year!

Hello There!  Welcome back!

When my Sweets and I sat down to talk about our wedding, we agreed photography was the most important to us and we allocated a big portion of our budget towards it.  Looking for a photographer has been one of the most stressful tasks for me thus far.  Let me know tell you about my journey

When I got engaged in May, I was extremely worried finding a good wedding photographer to capture our special day was going to be impossible.  I was told typically couples booked their photographers about one year in advance and here I was, planning a wedding in less than six months!  Photography was a large portion of our budget and I was afraid finding a photographer this late in the game was going to cost us more.

I first contacted one of my brother’s former classmates, who’s a photographer, a few days after being engaged and started gathering more information about her services.  I felt really bad because I didn’t have much information to provide her considering I didn’t have a confirm date nor location.  Side note: This was a main issue I came across when contacting the photographers.  They ask a lot of questions so make sure you have the answers

Unfortunately, this fell through because once I had all the information to provide, communications stopped on her end and she never responded to back to my emails 😕 At this point, I was scrambling to look for other photographers since I did not have a backup.  I started asking friends for recommendations and I came across a few wedding photographers on Facebook.  I reached out to every single one of them and most of them were not available on my wedding date.  Even the photographers’ recommendations did not have availability.  At this point, I was really worried and stressing.  Then I came across Kelly Walsh Loss Photography.  I contacted Kelly and luckily, she was available   We corresponded through email for several weeks before we met in person.

My Sweets and I met with Kelly in person at Starbucks and is super professional, friendly, informative, and super organized.  She has a background in wedding planning so she really knows the ropes.  Kelly was able to answer almost, if not all our questions and seemed like she will be able to guide us through the process.  We prefaced that we were really awkward in front of the camera so I’m hoping the awkwardness does not shine through.  I’m really looking forward to working with Kelly!

By the way, our engagement photo session is scheduled in August at a local garden and I cannot wait to share some photos with you all in August 😄

Hope you enjoyed the post!  See you all soon!

Tying the Knot Thursday — Wedding Dress Shopping

Hi there!  I am back today to share both of my wedding shopping experiences.  Oh boy was it an experience!

My first time EVER trying on a wedding dress took place at a BHLDN “boutique” in an Anthropologie store.  All the odds were against me but I went anyway.  Here is how it went.

I had made an appointment weeks prior to go with my MOH (Matron of Honor) to check out my “dream” dress that I had been eyeing for months…the Lucca Maxi Gown by Watters.

Picture from here

However, with conflicting schedules, she was not able to come along with me.  Then I asked my mom if she would like to go but some last minute kitchen appliance issues arose and she couldn’t make it.  The day of the appointment, I was actually really sick but I didn’t want to reschedule the appointment so I attend the consultation alone.  It was a very hot, humid day and I arrived to my appointment super early.  Unfortunately, the store’s A/C wasn’t that strong so I wasn’t able to recover from being so sweaty… TMI.. gross.

Finally, I met with my dress consultant and she was extremely nice.  She was able to pull a few dresses I had requested to try-on and we headed to the dressing room.  Unfortunately, every dress I tried on… it was very depressing 😦

All the dresses were too small and not flattering at all.  I was very self conscious already and when I tried on the dresses, it made me feel even more uncomfortable.  The consultant was very sweet and doing everything she could to be encouraging and make me feel better.  She would point out the aspects of the dress that was flattering on me.  Honestly, I wanted the appointment to be over the minute I tried on the first dress.  I left the store traumatized.

My next wedding consultation was at David’s Bridal, a large bridal store chain, and this time my bridal party and mom were joining me.  After my first experience, I was not looking forward nor excited to try on more dresses.  However, since it was a large bridal store, I knew there would be dresses in my size to try on.

We arrived to our appointment early and when I walked into the store, I was very overwhelmed.  I’ve never seen so many wedding dresses!  We walked around looking at wedding and bridesmaid dresses.  Of course, the one thing on my mind was all the pretty wedding dresses that I liked were not in my size.  I was really surprised when the wedding consultant was able to pull several of the ones I had favorited online.  Also, my guests were able to pull a dress for me to try on as well.  I think I tried on about 8-10 dresses that day.

I wanted each bridesmaid to help me in the dressing room so I could share the experience with them.  When I tried on the first wedding dress and the zipper actually zipped up, I was really shocked.  The dress was actually flattering on my figure and at that point, the whole appointment went uphill 🙂

I didn’t expect to find my dress so soon but I did!  The funny thing is when we all saw the dress on the hanger, we were all skeptical about it.  But as soon as I walked out, we all loved it!  The dress fits with the theme of the wedding… rustic and romantic.  Also, it was only 40% of my budget!  Unfortunately, I cannot show a picture of it yet but I will definitely share after the wedding 🙂 My bridesmaids had a chance to try on dresses as well, which was really fun.  I think I was more excited to see them try on dresses than trying on my own dress, lol.  We ended up choosing a coral, strapless, chiffon, floor length dress and it was flattering on everyone 🙂

Hope you like this post, I’ll see you in my next one!

Tying The Knot Thursday — The Beginning

Hello there — Welcome to my new series Tying The Knot Thursday 🙂

If you read my previous post, you know that I’m engaged!  I want to share with you details about my wedding and my thoughts/feelings along the process.  I hope that I can help provide inspiration, tips, ideas, recommendations/suggestions and comfort to all those interested in wedding planning.

Let’s start off with what I envision for my own wedding.

  • Small and intimate surrounded with close family and friends
  • Romantic, rustic and laid back (sort of)
  • Day filled with love, joy, hope, faith and laughter

Is that too much to ask for?  Well, if you have a lot of people who live locally… unfortunately, you’re bound to hurt some people’s feelings.  Although we are having a small wedding, you would think it would be easier to plan, but I am STRESSED.  There’s a  long checklist of tasks to get done, a very strict budget to stick to and several DIY projects to conquer.  I find myself having to take many deep breaths and I’m slowly learning how to delegate 🙂

Ok, ok… I’ll quit blabbing.  I know you all are dying to know some real details about my wedding so here it is.

Wedding Date2015

Yes… we will be married by the end of this year 🙂

Wedding ThemeRomantic and rustic

I absolutely love a romantic, rustic wedding theme.  The romantic theme completely epitomizes my ideal style in life…through fashion to the hopeless romantic within me.  The rustic-ness displays my long yearning to be a Southern Belle and my fascination with the southern culture.  I’ve always had a thing for the south…every since I was young.

Color Scheme: Coral, Mint and Gold

I originally chose plum purple and a mid-tone green to reflect our favorite colors but My Sweets was not feeling the plum purple.  He thought it was very dark and depressing so bright, fun colors were chosen!

Wedding PartyIndividuals who mean so much to us

We both wanted people who meant a lot to us to stand next to us as we embarked a new journey in life.  For my matron of honor and my bridesmaids, I wrote them all a personal letter reflecting on our friendship/relationship and asked them to be part of my big day.  They all accepted 🙂

Bridesmaids Dresses:  Short coral dresses

Everyone who knows me would probably guess that I would pick the exact dress for my bridal party, but I’m letting everyone choose their own dress.  The only requirements I ask are the color to be coral (which they unanimously voted for), the length to be short and that they send me a picture.  I originally asked for long dresses but apparently they’re not easy to find.

The reason why I want my girls to pick their own dresses is because everyone’s style is different and body shapes are unique.  I want them to be comfortable with what they’re wearing and it to be flattering on their figure.

I think I shared a good amount of details with you all today, don’t you??  If you’re interested in knowing more in the near future, subscribe to this blog via email or click the follow button if you  have a WordPress account.  I typically notify via Twitter as well 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my first post from this new series and I will be back soon with another post!

New Video, Say What??!

Hi Loves,

I finally uploaded a video after being gone for a whole month 🙂  I actually filmed a video before but when I sat down to edit, it appears that half the footage didn’t record 😦

Today, I’m sharing with you all what I picked up during the Sephora VIB Sale.  I honestly wasn’t going to get anything, but my cousin’s wedding is coming up in a month and I didn’t have any foundation to wear for her big day.  So I went into Sephora wanting to buy a couple of items and walked out with an entire bag full of stuff… *sigh* the struggles of a beauty enthusiast.

I love lots of upcoming videos planned that are wedding related and also using new products!  If you’re not subscribed to my channel, you totally should so you’re up to date when I upload videos.   Sometimes I may not have an associating blog post, so let’s stay connected!

So grab a drink, a snack, and enjoy!!!

With lots of love,
